History of Internet Advertising
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is an organization that was set up to not only police the internet advertising world - but also to help promote internet advertising as a whole. The IAB does not make mandatory guidelines on any of the ad sizes, but it was determined that if everyone used approx. the same size ads - it would make life on the media planner and advertiser a whole lot easier. So below you will find the IAB recommended ad sizes that we try to follow:

1858 | The "Atlantic Cable" was installed across the ocean with the idea of connecting communications in the US and Europe.
1969 | Yes, Al Gohr, it was 1969 that the beginning of the computer internet was in place (and actually, it was even years before that that the networking idea began). The military started the ARPANET system in order to be able to transmit messages in case the phone lines were destroyed in a time of war.
1983 | Name server developed at University of Wisconsin.
1984 | Domain Name System (DNS) Introduced.
1984 | On November 1st, an Internet worm affects 10% of the hosts.
1990 | ARPANET ceases to exist.
1991 | Tim Berners-Lee releases World Wide Web (WWW).
1994 | The first paid banner advertisement was displayed.
1996 | The IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) was formed to police and promote online advertising.
1997 | The IAB reports surpassing $1 Billion in ad revenues in a calendar year for the first time.
1998 | Media Two was in it's first stages of becoming an advertising agency (actual legal status came in February of 1999).
1999 | Media Two runs its client The Washington Mint on the first "trial run" of text ads on Google.com. Month's later, Google launches it's now popular AdWords program to the public.
1999 | Blogging goes mainstream with Blogger.com and Pitas.com sites allowing individuals easy access to post (original term "weblog" coined back in 1998 by Jorn Barger, while bloggings routes date back to 1992 with the first "what's new" website).
2000 | The IAB reports $8.2 Billion in ad revenues for the year - a 75% increase over 1999.
2001-2 | The infamous "Dot Com Bomb" era, in which revenues dropped 12% in 2001, and then another 16% from there in 2002.
2003 | Early audio postings in RSS file format were widely being used, but in 2004, the term "PodCasting" gained widespread acceptance. Podcasting is a synonym for "audioblogging".
2005 | The IAB reports the first half of 2005 reaches $5.8 Billion in ad revenues.
2005 | In October, Media Two participates in MSN's pilot search advertising program.
2006 | On January 25th, both Brian and Dave made it into the office before Michael. Officially known as the day of infamy.
